Despite his injury of the left thumb, Shakib Al Hasan might still play from the first match of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket league.
After a meeting held on Wednesday with the officials of Kalabagan Krira Chakra, Shakib Al Hasan told the reporters, “It’s been 10 days since my thumb was injured. I think, by next week it will be much better. If the league starts from 10th September, I am hoping to play from the first match.”
Shakib was bought by Kalabagan Krira Chakra for the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket league, in the auction held last Sunday.
During a practice session in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on August 18, Shakib got an injury on his left thumb.
The chief sports medical doctor of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Debashish Chowdhury said on Tuesday, a hairline fracture was caught up when they did an X-ray scan. For this reason, Shakib was told to stay away from the field for at least three weeks.
However, when Shakib returned from a busy season at Friends Life t-20 in England and Caribbean Premier League, he wanted to take rest by staying away from cricket a few days.
When asked about his injury, the no.1 ODI all-rounder said, “It is not mandatory to stay away from the field for three weeks. The bandage will be opened up next week, and then the doctors will see the condition to decide what I should do next.”
Until now, Kalabagan’s aim was to survive in the league, however, this time they want to win the title. After the meeting with his club’s officials, Shakib said, “We have discussed about the tournament and the sorting of the team. After we start the practice, these things will be fairly easy to manage.”
“I will try to give my best performance for whichever club I play. The fact that I am playing for Kalabagan will not change any of it. If we play our best cricket, we have a good potential to win this tournament,” Shakib added.
Last season Shakib took a maximum of 29 wickets in the tournament, and played a significant role in the success of Victoria club. Kalabagan ended up in the eight position last season.
In this regard, Shakib said, “It would not be fair to compare the last two seasons. The new method of transfer made everything a bit different this season. None of the team can be really called a great team. Every team has good and mediocre quality of players. I think all the teams have chance to take the championship this season.”
