The dates of the Asia Cup ODI tournament appear to have ended and the tournament will be held between February 24 and March 7 next year in Bangladesh, pending confirmation by Nimbus, which is the official broadcaster of the tournament. [Watch Video Clip: Roof Breaking Six by Tamim Iqbal]
The dates, as well as other issues such vanues, were discussed at the meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in Chennai on Saturday, attended by BCCI president N Srinivasan, Sri Lankan Cricket secretary Nishanta Ranatuga, PCB chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed and ACC chief executive Syed Ashraful Huq.
According to the Daily Times, Though India’s participation was in doubt, with the Asia Cup starting too soon after the end of the 2014 New Zealand tour according to the original schedules, a source said India have ensured its participation as BCCI worked out a short itinerary for the tour of New Zealand.
Though the report mentioned that rumors have arisen about Nimbus filing for bankruptcy, the source expressed confidence that Nimbus would not withdraw because it has already paid the first installment of the bank guarantee, but he added that they would have to approach another broadcaster if Nimbus fails to comply with the deadline.
The ACC was forced to change the venue of the original hosts India to Bangladesh after India said it was unable to host the tournament due to a packed international calendar, the report mentioned.
