The Women’s team faces a large scale defeat in the beginning of their South African tour. In their first T20 match, they lost to South African Women’s team by 9 wickets.
On Thursday at Senwas Park in Potchefstroom, Bangladesh Women managed to collect only 72 runs with a loss of four wickets.
Ayasha Rahman (8 from 22b) and Fargana Hoque (14 from 33b) gave a very slow start, for which the team score did not cross 24 in the first 10 overs. In between these overs, four were maiden overs.
Lata Mondal and the captain Salma Khatun tried to boost the score after Ayasha and Fargana’s departure, but could not manage to give a tough fight to the South Africans.
In reply, South African’s lost only a wicket in 13 overs and 3 balls to reach their goal. Trisha Chetty’s 32 from 34 balls and captain Mignon du Preez’s 29 from 15 helped the South Africans to reach the small target of 73.
From amongst the bowlers of Bangladesh, only Khadija Tul Kubra picked up a wicket.
Saturday is the second T20 match on the same venue.
