The National Cricket Championship-2015 will begin across the country from tomorrow, confirmed Bangladesh Cricket Board officials on Saturday.
It’s going to be the 35th eedition of the tournament. Although teams from all 64 districts take part in the NCC, which is played in the 50-over format, will be played in just 14 venues across the country.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Operations committee chairman Akram Khan promised that this year’s NCC will be better than its previous versions.
“All the matches will be played on turf wickets so that players get the opportunity to show their mettle. Rain always plays foul in this tournament due to the weather at this time, but we have no other suitable season. We tried to arrange the matches at good venues so that we could arrange curtailed-over matches if it rained,” said the former national skipper.
“The semifinals and final may be two-day affairs but it’s not yet confirmed. We are thinking of arranging a few matches with the best players of the tournament, who will be selected by match referees and our observers,” he added.
According to the format of the tournnent, eight teams will qualify for the second phase after completing the group phase. Dhaka Division will have two teams while the other six teams will represent their respective divisions.
The champions of the competition will be awarded Tk 5 lakh while the runners-up will earn Tk 2.5 lakh.
