The sixth and final round of the Walton 17th National Cricket League (NCL) was supposed to get underway today across four different venues of the country. But due to bad weather, none of the top tier matches could roll onto the ground and thus in those games, the day was abandoned without a ball being bowled. However, the tier-2 matches between Barisal-Chittagong and Sylhet-Rajshahi commenced at the scheduled time, with both the games saw some exciting cricketing action throughout the day.
Shahriar Nafees and Fazle Mahmood monstered the Chittagong bowling attack, with both batsmen succumbing hundreds, to put Barisal in command at the end of the opening day’s play. Courtesy to the unbeaten 158 and 128 from Nafees and Mahmood respectively, Barisal rode on a daunting total of 323 runs for the loss of one wicket. Earlier Chittagong won the toss and invited their opponent to bat first at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra. Now the Chittagong skipper must be realizing his mistake after getting plundered all day long by the flawless stand between Nafees and Mahmood.
In the other match of the day between Rajshahi and Sylhet at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna, the latter faced a batting collapse, as they were dismissed at only 176 in their first innings, owing to some destructive bowling from Moinul Islam Sanjamul Islam, who shared six wickets between themselves. Nasum Ahmed topscored for them with a 59-run knock. In reply, Rajshahi also couldn’t grab a solid opening and finished the day at 42 for 2.
