Being grouped in the relatively tougher group, Bangladesh will have to go through a tough time in the ICC Champions Trophy. It has been nineteen years since the Tigers played their last Champions Trophy; in 2017, the minnows have grown up enough to be qualified directly with the top ranked teams to participate in the prestigious tournament.
Former national team captain turned politician Naimur Rahman Durjoy ushered high hopes for Bangladesh saying the team, now, has the ability to defeat anyone; “the group is really tough but we had defeated all of those teams. We have belief upon ourselves. Let keep aside who is stronger than whom, a team can win in any given day if they could play better than the opposition. We can defeat anyone.”
Referring the present team as the best Bangladesh team to play in the country’s ODI history, Durjoy said, “Obviously it is the best team if you count number of matches and the experience of cricketers. Every member of the team has played near about hundred and fifty one day matches and more. Their experience must reflect in the field.”
Denying further hardship for bouncy English wicket, the current government MP said, “It is important for the batsmen to be in run regarding the nature of wicket. It is easy to bat in any wicket when a batsman is in form. We could not make an English condition back at home. But in this season we have so far played most number of away matches that will help us over there.”
