'Histories, but still possible'

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, the ODI captain of Bangladesh team, hopes his team will repeat the past performances in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England and Wales in June. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ চ্যাম্পিয়ন্স ট্রফি নিয়ে আশাবাদী মাশরাফি]

Bangladesh will face England, Australia and New Zealand in Group A of Champions Trophy 2017. Arguably, Bangladesh are in a tough group. But the past performances give Mashrafe some hope. The Tigers defeated England in 2010, before that they handed a historic loss to Australia in 2005.

“In reality, the Champions Trophy is going to be very tough for us. If we look at our opponents, it feels like the tournament won’t be so easy,” said Mashrafe.

“We have won twice in English conditions (vs England at Bristol in 2010). We also won against Australia at Cardiff in 2005. Though those are histories, but I still feel it is possible. If we can play with our capabilities, we will definitely do well,” he added.

The Bangladesh skipper feels the group is going to be very tough. But if his team play well, successes may come.

“Grouping? Very difficult, but not impossible. If we can play well it won’t be impossible but it’s very tough.”

Bangladesh will leave for Sussex on Wednesday night. From Sussex, they will go to Ireland for tri-nation series with New Zealand. They will return to England to play Champions Trophy.
