Nasir and Co. win big over Mashrafe-Mushfiqur

In the third round round of the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL), Mashrafe-Mushfiqur’s Legends of Rupganj succumbed to a huge 8-wicket defeat at the hands of Nasir Hossain’s Gazi Group Cricketers on Thursday. With this victory, Nasir’s team now has three wins in as many matches, and they are leading the points table with 6 points to their credit. At the Ground-3 of BKSP, Legends of Rupganj skipper Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first. Due to the heavy rain of last night, the wicket had been wet which delayed the match to start. As a result, the match was curtailed to 47 overs a side.

Batting first, Rupganj faced the most disastrous start possible, as they slipped to 12 for three. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudul Hasan rescued them from the ultimate collapse, stitching together a 56-run partnership. But once they were gone, Rupganj started losing wickets at regular intervals again. However at the fag end of the inningsm a 57-run stand between Mosharraf Rubel and Mohammad Sharif steered them to a total of 157 runs. Abu Haider Rony took 4 wickets for 26 runs, and Parvez Rasool grabbed 3.

Chasing an easy target, Gazi Group Cricketers once again had a good start. Anamul Haque Bijoy and Jahurul Islam brought up 59 runs for the opening partnership. After the departure of Anamul, Jahurul accompanied with Mominul Haque took his team close to the victory. In the end, Jahurul remained unbeaten on 62 while skipper Nasir on 15 to win the match by 8 wickets and 66 balls to spare.
