Indian aggressive quick bowler Shardul Thakur had a moment to forget in RPS’ IPL clash with Kolkata, delivering a Harmison-esque wide nearly off the pitch to leave skipper Steve Smith scratching his head. The TV commentator Melanie Jones took no time whatsoever to call the delivery “potentially one of the worst delivery you will see in IPL – ever!”. Fellow caller BrettLee also added, “I don’t think that’s hit the pitch! That’s missed the wicket.”
The hilarious moment came during the Rising Pune Supergiant’s seven-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. Thakur was bowling to Kolkata dangerman Robin Uthappa when the ball squeezed out of his hand and skidded way down leg side, before rolling away to the boundary.
Thakur finished with 0-31 from 3.1 overs. And Pune’s performance almost matched the wide with the Knight Riders handing them a seven wicket thrashing, chasing down the 183-run target with 11 balls to spare.
Pune reached a solid total of 5-182, only for Robin Uthappa and captain Gautam Gambhir to guide Knight Riders to 3-184. Uthappa struck an inspired 87 and Gambhir added 62 as two-time champions Kolkata joined Mumbai at the top of the 10th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) standings.
