On the proceeding, Deepti and Poonam both smashed their maiden ODI centuries to raise India into a huge win over Ireland in Potchefstroom.
The epic stand ended when Deepti Sharma departed scoring 188 runs playing 160 balls in the 46th over of the match. The 188 run ton of Sharma is the second highest score made by any Indian batsman in the history of cricket. The highest innings was done by Belinda Clark when he scored 229 runs against Denmark in 1997.
The other opener Poonam Raut was retired three deliveries after Deepti’s dismissal. He was retired hurt on 109 in 116 balls.
In combined men and women’s history of cricket, the 320 run partnership is in fact the fourth 300 plus run partnership. In their allotted 50 overs of the match, India piled up 358 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.
Ireland was eventually bowled out scoring 109 runs to hand India a 249 run victory, the sixth highest victory margin in women’s cricket.
“The Indian women team is on a record breaking spree in the women’s quadrangular series and I congratulate them for their all – round show” – said Amitabh Chowdhury, acting secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India.
The other teams of the series are South Africa and Zimbabwe.
