The decision has come down as a shocker to the country’s cricketing authorities prior to a prestigious tournament like ICC Champions Trophy.
“He has supported the strategic vision of this administration and been vastly instrumental in many of the developments we have made. We intend to continue to engage Aravinda’s expertise in our key cricketing activities on a consultancy basis” – Sri Lanka Cricket President Thilanga Sumathipala said.
“It is understandable that De Silva needs to prioritize his personal commitments” – Sumathipala also said.
In Sri Lanka’s triumph of 1996 World Cup, Aravinda De Silva and Sanath Jayasuriya was instrumental with the bat. He had twice been selected as the Chief Selector.
