While talking to the media, the chairman of the BPL governing council Afzalur Rahman Sinha said this year they had decided to allow 5 foreign players in a match and the reason is the lack of talented players in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket.

“This year 4-5 new franchises showed their interest to buy a team. If we include one more franchise this year, the number of teams will be eight and 7 or 8 more local players would be required for that. But we don’t have enough talented local  players who can perform well in such big stage. Bangladesh don’t have as many talented players as India have,” Afzalur Rahman Sinha told the reporters, on Thursday.

However, question was also raised as only one foreign player gets opportunity to play in a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match and the tournament is considered as the most exciting 50-over tournament in Bangladesh. Ismail Hayder Mallick explained the reason in reply.

“DPL is a 50-over tournament but BPL is a 20-over tournament so the situation is completely different here. Are all the teams in the DPL are equally strong?  Look at the point table and you will see the lower ranked four teams can’t even compete with the other top teams,’ said Ismail Hayder Mallick
