Having elected to bowl first in a batting friendly wicket, Bangladesh restricted the Blackcaps to 271 after 50 overs, thanks to the Bangladesh bowlers for their economical bowling. Chasing the target, Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal gave his side a flying start along with one down batsman Sabbir Rahman. Although Bangladesh lost some quick wickets after Tamim went back to the pavilion, Mushfiqur Rahim chased down the target staying on the middle till the end.
With this win Bangladesh earned two rating points in the ODI ranking which moved them to the number 6 position in the current ranking.
Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) released their latest MRF Tyres ODI Team Ranking on Monday where Bangladesh were at number 7 position with 91 rating points. Bangladesh needed to earn 2 points to overtake the then-6th ranked team Sri Lanka.
However, Bangladesh moving to 6th place certainly raises the prospect for the Tigers to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 directly without any need of playing the qualifier round.
