Bangladesh are in a very tough group in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. They may be the sixth ranked team in the world, but all three other teams in the group — England, Australia and New Zealand — are better ranked than Bangladesh. Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has already termed it as the ‘group of death’. [বাংলায় পড়ুন: ইংল্যান্ড-অস্ট্রেলিয়াকে চমক দেখাবে বাংলাদেশ বললেন শাহরিয়ার নাফিস]
Discarded national opener Shahriar Nafees also admits it, but he also believes that if Bangladesh play their best possible cricket, they have the ability to beat any team, and even surprise the likes of England, Australia and New Zealand.
“We have to understand the reality. We have got three very tough opponents in the Champions Trophy. Specially the tournament is happening in England condition, and those three teams in our group play well in these English conditions. So things will be rather more difficult for us to handle,” said Nafees.
Then he also added, “Bangladesh have been in very good form of late. Batsmen are among the runs. Their recent form says Bangladesh are quite confident at the moment. I believe Bangladesh will surprise England-Australia-New Zealand.”
Bangladesh will begin their Champions Trophy campaign with the match against England in Oval on June 1. Then they will face Australia at the same venue on June 9, before shifting to Cardiff to play against New Zealand on June 9.
