Bashar thinks Bangladesh can beat England again

Former Bangladesh captain and Champions Trophy ambassador Habibul Bashar believes that the old history between Bangladesh and England can be repeated again. He thinks the Tigers can beat the English Lions in the opening game of 2017 Champions Trophy at The Oval on June 1. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ বিশ্বাস করি, বাংলাদেশ আবারো ইতিহাসের পুনরাবৃত্তি করবে।]

“Bangladesh’s most famous global win has to be against England at the Adelaide Oval in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Can it beat England again? I think it can. England is a much better and different team now, but I sincerely believe history can be repeated,” Bashar wrote in an ICC column.

The former captain also said that if Bangladesh don’t manage to win it will be a failure for them as the side have shown consistency and quality in past two years.

“Bangladesh has reached a stage where it has nothing to prove, it has shown over the last two years that it is good enough to beat any side. I would say that if it doesn’t win, it will be a kind of failure for them, which is good because it has raised expectations with its quality and consistency.”

England are in a sublime form since the 2015 World Cup. No doubt, they are the favourites, but the former captain hopes Bangladesh play better cricket and come out smiling.

“England will begin the favourite, but cricket has always had a way of proving statistics and the experts wrong. I am sure we will see a wonderful game, and I am hoping it is Bangladesh which comes out smiling at the end,” added Bashar.
