Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England and Wales, former India captain Sourav Ganguly, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram and current England ODI captain Eoin Morgan talked about the prospects of Bangladesh in the tournament, stating that the Tigers could pose a threat to all other teams.
Talking about Bangladesh’s recent success, Ganguly believed it has been because of their batting. “You see, in the recent years, Bangladesh have become a vastly improved side batting-wise. They have been batting well since the 2015 World Cup, and that has contributed to much of their successes.
“Now there are so many performers in the Bangladesh squad. On a particular day, any batsman can step up and play the best cricket he can possibly play. And that’s the most important thing. At least one batsman has to take the responsibility and bat through all 50 overs. And if they can do it, they can beat any team in the world.”
Akram termed Bangladesh as one of best fielding sides of the competiton, “This Bangladesh side is very young and very promising. They are one of the best fielding sides to take part in this Champions Trophy. They have taken some giant stride in last few years, and they have been toiling hard, and have been on a rise. Certainly they will be fancying their chances in England.”
Meanwhile, England skipper Morgan too heaped praise on the Tigers, as he said: “About 10 years ago when you would play Bangladesh, you could guaranty a victory. But time has changed now. This Bangladesh team is totally different from what they once used to be. Young and promising players have been coming through on a regular basis, and for last five or six years, they have been steadily making progress, and now they are now ready to put some real impact.”
