Bangladesh’s golden opportunity to seal the place in world cup

Bangladesh 7th in ODI rankings, SA no.1
Golden opportunity to seal the place in world cup.

The Bangladesh Cricket team will start their Tri Nation series in Ireland from tomorrow. The series which seemed to many just as a warm up ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy is not that anymore. Instead the series is a golden opportunity toward the Tigers to seal their place in the ICC Cricket World Cup. [ বাংলায় পড়ুন- ত্রিদেশীয় সিরিজই গড়ে দিবে টাইগারদের বিশ্বকাপ ভাগ্য]

Also the Men In Red and Green will have to be careful as it could also do the inverse if they fail to perform during the series starting from 12th of May. According to the new theory by International Cricket Council- ICC, the top eight teams in the ICC One day internationals rankings at 30th September this year will qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup directly. The rest of the teams will have to play the qualifier matches for their qualification.

The Bangladesh Cricket team is at the moment at number seven in the ICC One day internationals rankings with 91 rating points. There is a big chance for Tigers to jump upto number six after Tri Nation series, ahead of the former world champions Sri Lanka who are currently ahead with 93 points.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s team will play four matches in the series in Ireland. They need to win three matches- both against the host and at least one of the two matches against the New Zealand. In that case they will reach to 94 points which will be enough to overtake Sri Lanka and reach the number six for the first time in their history.

Also if they can win all of the four matches, they will have 97 points which will be 9 points more than the current number eight team Pakistan who have 88 points. And 18 points more than the West Indies who are at nine in the rankings with 79 points. That will ensure their place in the World cup as their is no realistic chance for West Indies to improve their points within 30th September as they will not be seen to play in ICC Champions Trophy as well.

But as we said irresponsible performance in the series can make it very worse as well for Bangladesh. They will lose eight points if they somehow lose in all of their matches. Which will also take them down to number eight with 83 rating points and their difference with the West Indies will be only four points in that case.

A total number of six matches will be held in the tri-nation series while each of the teams will be getting chance to play four matches. Visiting Bangladesh will take on host Ireland in the tri-nation series opener.
