Soumya Sarkar has already established himself as the perfect opening partner to open with Tamim Iqbal in limited-over cricket. He has been sparkling with the bat ever since he made his debut in 2014. Specially the 2015 completely belonged to him and Mustafizur Rahman. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ সৌম্যের সামনে নাফিসকে ছাড়িয়ে যাবার সুযোগ]
And now Soumya is on verge of a great record. He is just 75 runs away from the landmark of 1,000 runs in One-Day Internations. If he can do it in next two innings, then he will become the fastest batsman from Bangladesh to reach 1,000 ODI runs, eclipsing the previous record held by Shahriar Nafees.
So far Soumya has batted in 26 innings of 27 matches and scored 925 runs. On the other hand, Nafees raced to his 1,000 ODI runs in 29 innings of as many matches.
That means if Soumya can score 75 runs in his next two innings, he will become the new record-holder to score fastest 1,000 ODI runs for Bangladesh. And even if he does it in three innings, he will jointly share the record with Nafees.
Soumya is expected to open Bangladesh’s innings with Tamim Iqbal when the Tigers face England in the first match of the ICC Champions Trophy at The Oval on Thursday (June 1).
