Former Australian batsman Mike Hussey has picked his player of the tournament for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2017 which is to be held in England and Wales. He thinks England’s allrounder Ben Stokes will be crowned as the best player.
Stokes recently won player of the tournament award in the Indian Premier League 2017 for Rising Pune Supergiant in his very first IPL season.
The 25-year-old scored 25 runs off 30 balls against South Africa in the first ODI at Headingley, Leeds. He bowled two overs for 14 runs without any success.
“I feel like his batting has improved immeasurably, he’s now starting to really work it out. And with experience he’s getting better as a short-form bowler as well, he’s more confident in his own ability. He’s an incredible talent, incredible power,” Hussey told cricket.com.au.
“Once he starts figuring the game out in the mind, how he plays best and with a bit more experience it’s a really dangerous combination. All the assets are there and if his confidence is up and gets the opportunity to play well then he could get on a roll and be really hard to stop,” he added.
If Stokes wins the Man of the Tournament award in this year’s Champions Trophy, he will be the first ever Englishman to win it in CT. India’s Shikhar Dhawan was named the tournament’s best in last edition of 2013 in England.
