In the second eliminator in IPL 10, it was the Kolkata Knight Riders who prevailed in a thrilling encounter in a rain-curtailed match. Courtesy of a clinical bowling performance and some good batting Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by seven wickets. As a result, they will meet Mumbai Indians on 19th May in Qualifier 2.

While the rain did play some spoilsport it was an uphill task for Sunrisers Hyderabad from the start as they did not put up a big total and were restricted to 128 runs losing seven wickets in their 20 overs. In a revised target of 48 in 6 overs. Kolkata Knight Riders had some early hiccups but then Gambhir took control, and his 32 off 19 helped them sail into Qualifier 2.

At the start, Chris Lynn was on the money right away, smacking Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a six in the first ball he faced. But the second ball saw the destructive Australian get out after replays showed Lynn had edged to wicketkeeper Naman OJha off a Bhuveshwar near-yorker.

Fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile finished with figures of 3/20 in his quota of four overs. Umesh Yadav picked two wickets while Trent Boult and Piyush Chawla chipped in with a wicket each.

Both teams were forced to make changes to their last playing XIs due to injury concerns. While Yuvraj Singh returned for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Manish Pandey missed out for Kolkata Knight Riders. Skipper David Warner was the top scorer for Sunrisers Hyderabad with 37 off 35 balls as none other batsmen got going.

The Gautam Gambhir’s Kolkata Knight Riders will now take on Mumbai Indians on Friday at the same venue to join Rising Pune Supergiant in the final of the season.
