Having been asked to bat first at Malahide Cricket Club, Ireland had a poor start, loosing their opener Paul Stirling in the second over of the innings, before scoring any run. Mustafizur Rahman was the bowler who gave Bangladesh the first breakthrough.
Ed Joyce and Porterfield added 37 runs in the first wicket stand but Mosaddek Hossain did not let them grow as he picked up Porterfield in the ninth of over of the match. Shakib Al Hasan took Andy Balbirnie in the fifteenth over.
Niall O’Brien and Ed Joyce in the third wicket stand fought back strongly as they added 55 runs together before Niall O’Brien fell for 30 in the 28th over.
Afterwards they kept loosing wickets in a regular interval and ultimately folded out to 181 in the 47th over. For Ireland, Ed Joyce was the highest run-getter with 46 from 74 balls.
Mustafiz took 4-23 in nine overs while Sunzamul and Mashrafe took two wickets each.
