Bangladesh may not have been the champions of the just concluded tri-nation series in Ireland for their rain-interrupted, eventually-abandoned opening game against the hosts, but they have capped off the series with the last laugh, having won the 6th and final game of the series against New Zealand by 5 wickets.
Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman, both scored 65 runs to set up the foundation for the Tigers to get a convincing win. However, it was Mushfiqur Rahim who did the recontruction of Bangladesh’s chase when they were reeling after three successive wicket falls.
Mushfiqur played a sensible knock of 45 off 45 balls to lead the Tigers sail to victory, and for that he won the Man of the Series award, and received USD 500.
While receiving the award at the post match presentation ceremony, Mushfiqur said: “The bowlers came back really well in the back end. At one point it looked like they would get 300-plus. Very good preparation going into the Champions Trophy. Hopefully we’ll come out strong in the Champions Trophy.”
On the other hand, Mustafizur Rahman became the Quality Player of the Series for picking up 7 wickets in three innings’, including one four-wicket haul against Ireland.
New Zealand’s Tom Latham was elected Quality Player of the Match and the Man of the Series.
