West Indian all – rounder Sunil Narine, after scoring 54 runs off just 17 balls to guide Kolkata Knight Riders to a six wicket win against star – studded Royale Challengers Bangalore, admitted he himself did not ‘except’ him to achieve such a feat.
It was the fastest fifty in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL); Narine, afterwards said, “Yes, I’m surprised, definitely did not except something like this”. He was adjudged man of the match.
Sunil Narine also claimed 2 wickets conceding 29 runs in his four overs to restrict Royale Challengers Bangalore to 158/6.
Later Kolkata Knight Riders chased down the target easily with 29 balls to spare. Chris Lynn, came back in his dashing form once again after being restored from a frustrating injury later last month. Lynn’s 50 came off in just 20 balls.
In the fifth wicket, Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn added 105 runs. “Lynny just said keep your eyes on the ball, maintain your focus and swing through the line. I try to keep it simple and back my ability.”

On his achieving the crucial wicket of South African master hitter AB De Villiers, Sunil Narine said, “that wicket (De Villiers) was key and pulled them back a bit so I’m happy. It was a total team effort. Bowlers stuck to their plans. Umesh’s was a key performance too.”
