With Shakib Al Hasan walking in for the toss as the captain of Bangladesh against India in the second and last warm-up match ahead of the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, rumors were doing the rounds that Bangladesh regular captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza might have been suffering from a leg injury.
The situation became more complicated when Hathurusingha walked near the boundary rope, he was asked whether Mashrafe was rested or suffering from any injury. The reply from the Tigers coach was epic. He said, “Well, he broke his leg.”
Hathurusingha then walked away with a smile and it took no time for the Bangladeshi journalists to realise that it was a light-hearted reply by the Bangladesh coach.
Later Bangladesh batting coach Thilan Samaraweera reassured the Bangladeshi journalists at the ground that there was no injury concern for the Narail Express, let alone he broke his injury, and his absence from the match against India was just to provide him with some much-needed rest going into the all-important tournament opener against the hosts England on Thursday (June 1).
“No, no, there is no injury concern for Mashrafe, he is just given rest, that’s it,” said the former Sri Lankan top-order batsman in reply to the questions from the curious Bangladesh journalists.
