This happened when the questions and answers session in Bengali started at the press conference. A journalist started off the session saying, “Mashrafe, how far are you from the trophy?” Then came a funny reply from Mashrafe. His distance from the trophy was actually one hand.
But the Tigers captain knows how tough it is to lift the trophy in a tournament like this and especially playing in English conditions. A foreign reporter asked him about Bangladesh’s expectations in the Champions Trophy.
He replied, “The expectations are high. People are thinking we will take this trophy back home! But they have to understand. We have to understand where we are standing.
“The main thing is if we are progressing or not. We are coming up in the rankings from 10th, 9th, 8th, 7th and now 6th. This shows that the graph is going up. And this is important to me,” he said.
Mashrafe also said that the Tigers have to play their best to do well in the tournament or win the tournament. “There is a lot of hope. Realistically, we have to play our best,” he said.
