Bangladesh have recently risen to No.6 in the ICC ODI Team Rankings. And now the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon believes that it is also very much possible for them to upgrade their position to No.5 as well as ensure the passport to directly play the next World Cup from the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. “It’s tough to say a specific expectation. One and half-a-year back, I told that our main objective was to hold the fifth position in ICC rankings. In that sense, we’re in a good stead. Unfortunately if we did not lose to Afghanistan, we had then every possibility to stay at number fifth position now. But that possibility has not finished yet,” said Papon.
The BCB President leave for England on Sunday (May 28) to witness Bangladesh’s opening match of the Champions Trophy against the hosts England.
“The Champions Trophy is quite different because you see we in Ireland could not start well. At a new environ, we later make our adjustment. Tamim brought the match under control against Ireland in the tri-nation opener,” he said.
“In England, we don’t know what will be happened in the first match. I think we didn’t play at English condition for the last 10 years. So, time will be needed to get about the wickets and condition. Grounds of the practice matches are not the same as the match. So I think as our team went there one month before the Champions Trophy, they will make their habituation with the condition through these matches,” he added.
