Soumya is now just 75 runs away from becoming the fastest batsman for Bangladesh to score 1000 ODI runs. The record is currently owned by another classical opener of the country, Shahriar Nafees who has been trying to get his place back in the national team since a long time.
The 32-year-old Shahriar Nafees took 29 innings to complete his 1000 runs in ODI cricket, back in 2006 and no one from Bangladesh has been able to break the record till now.Soumya Sarkar thus far has played 26 international matches in ODI format for Bangladesh and scored 925 runs at an average of 42.05.
Having needed 75 runs, Soumya still have got 3 matches left in his hand to write his name next to Shariar Nafees. But if he managed score those 75 runs within next two matches he will the fastest Bangladesh batsman to complete 1000 runs in ODI.
However, former Caribbean batting stalwart Viv Richards is the man who holds the record of fastest batsman to complete 1000 runs. He had taken only 21 matches to reach to the highest height.
