Soumya Sarkar has blamed the windy weather of England for their dismal fielding performance in the warm-up match against Pakistan. In that particular match, Bangladesh lost by 2 wickets despite putting up a huge total of 341 runs on the board. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ ‘ভুল শুধরে মূল পর্বে ঘুরে দাঁড়াতে চায় বাংলাদেশ’]

The defeat came mostly because of too many missed catches out there. Earlier Bangladesh had also missed so many catches in the last match of tri-nation series against New Zealand, though the issue had got overshadowed because of Bangladesh’s eventual victory.

“Actually this is happening because of the weather. No one plays bad deliberately. Mistakes happen. And I think the condition and weather also played a big part. The weather was very windy, it was breezing sharply at times which made things difficult for us. But I think we will be able to adjust with the condition in next few days,” said Soumya.

Acknowledging their mistakes in the previous matches, Soumya said they will minimize the errors in the tournament proper. “Yes, we have done a string of mistakes. We missed catches, we leaked runs in the death overs, and we couldn’t capitalize and make big scores despite starting well. These are the things we have noted and currently working on. I don’t think you will see us repeating these mistakes again in the Champions Trophy. We will try to play our perfect game.”

Before taking on the hosts England at The Oval in London on June 1, the Tigers will play their second and last warm-up match against India at the same ground on May 30.
