Flamboyant opener of Bangladesh cricket team Tamim Iqbal, his partner in opening Imrul Kayes and T20 top-order batsman Sabbir Rahman are going to play in the the Afghan T20 league – Shpageeza Cricket League, as they were purchased during a players auction on Thursday. Tamim went for a huge sum of 2.1 million AFN (almost 25 lacs BDT) to Muslimyar Speeneghar Tigers, Sabbir Rahman got sold for a sum of 7,00,000 AFN (more than 8,25,000 BDT) to GP Kabul Eagles while Imrul Kayes went for a sum of 7,00,000 AFN to Arif Azeem SpeedBoosters.
“We have already received great response from the cricketers. This is the first time that so many international cricketers will be playing in this franchise-based league,” ACB CEO Shafiq Stanikzai said from Kabul.
The tournament will witness six franchises which are all owned by Afghani industrialists. The cricketing board has already obtained the go-ahead from the West Indies, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Canada and the UAE for the league.
