Nasir had played in the ODI series against England in October last year. Then after seven months, he came back to Bangladesh squad, but played only one match in the Ireland tri-nation series before returning Dhaka to play the remaining part of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL), as he was not kept in Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy squad.

But according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)’s President Nazmul Hasan Papon, it is not only Nasir but there are several other players who also deserve to be in the national team but aren’t getting the opportunity.

“Liton Das is playing so good in domestic cricket, still he doesn’t get to be in the national team. Imrul Kayes also doesn’t get enough chances to play. Then there is Anamul Haque Bijoy as well. Riyad (Mahmudullah) has to play good cricket and prove himself in every single match, because there are at least four other players ready to take his spot.

“So it has become tough for players like Nasir to be in the team. He deserves a chance, but where would he play? Even Mehedi Hasan Miraz too is not playing every match despite being Bangladesh’s best off-spinner at the moment.”

Though Nasir fans are often furious about BCB and the team management’s decision against playing Nasir, Papon is rather satisfied with the fact that there is such intense competition in the national team now.

“There is competition going on for every available spot in the national team. We also have many talented young players in our pipeline. New boys are coming and giving their seniors a tough fight. And this is the main reason behind our success,” Papon opined.
