The England Cricket team defeated the World champions Australia cricket team in their last fixture at group-A. The defeat against host has ended the ICC Champions trophy mission for this edition. That also meant they will return home without winning any matches in the prestigious tournament for the second time in a row.

Australia Cricket team defeated their Trans-Tasman rival New Zealand in the final of the 2009 edition of the ICC Champions trophy. They claimed the title for the second consecutive time after winning in the 2006 tournament in India as well. But the win against Black Caps has remained as their last victory in the event.

The four time world champions were in the group-A in the next edition along with the host England, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Australia lost to England by 48 runs in their first match, whereas their second match got abandoned due to heavy rain against the New Zealand. They faced Sri Lanka in the do-die last match but failed to win as the Lions defeated the Aussies by 20 runs.

This year they faced New Zealand again in the group stage, which yet again was washed away due to rain. Their second match against the Bangladesh also ended without any result for the very same reason. England made sure the Aussies end in the tournament winning in the last match.

The host England and Bangladesh qualified towards the Semi-Final from group-A, whereas the Australia will now have to wait for more years to end their jinx in the tournament. The next edition is scheduled to be held on 2021, which will keep the world champions win less in the tournament for 12 long years.
