It was Amla’s 151st ODI innings in his career and got his 25th ton. He becomes the fastest man to do it. Yet again, he breaks Virat Kohli’s record. The Indian stylish batsman had scored his 25th hundred in 162 innings. Amla has taken 11 innings lesser than him.
The 34-year-old veteran also became the first South African and sixth overall batsman to hit 25 centuries in ODI cricket. Before the match against Sri Lanka, he and AB de Villiers had joint record of 24 tons for Proteas.
Amla scored 103 runs from 115 deliveries including 5 fours and 2 sixes against Sri Lanka. He built his innings to a big one after having a slow start on Oval track. His 103 helped South Africa post 299/6 in 50 overs in their first game of the tournament.
This is his second ODI century of 2017 calendar year. He had smashed 154 against Sri Lanka earlier this year.
Amla recently broke Kohli’s record of fastest to 7000 ODI runs. He had it in his 150th innings in the Lord’s ODI against England prior to Champions Trophy.
