There’s a huge disappointing news for Bangladesh cricket fans. Just a week ago, the Tigers rose to ICC ODI Team Rankings after beating New Zealand in the last match of the tri-nation series in Ireland. [বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ সাতে নেমে গেল বাংলাদেশ]
But Bangladesh’s stay at six has been even more shortlived than anyone could have expected. They have slipped to No.7 once again according to the latest ICC ODI Team Rankings, last updated on June 2.
This comes at the back of Bangladesh’s 8-wicket defeat at the hands of the hosts England in the opening match of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 at The Oval in London on June 1.
Despite scoring a big total of 305 runs after coming to bat first, Bangladesh couldn’t defend the total as the English romped to victory with as many as 8 wickets to spare.
Because of this defeat, Bangladesh’s rating went down to 92, while the current 6th ranked Sri Lanka have 93 points to their credit.
However, there’s still chance for Bangladesh to move up to No.6 once again within a span of just one day. Sri Lanka will face tournament favorites South Africa in Edgbaston on Saturday (June 3), and if the Proteas can hand Sri Lanka a defeat, then the islanders will go down to No.7 again, and the Tigers will rise to No.6.
