England have qualified for the Semis with two wins over Bangladesh at The Oval and New Zealand in Cardiff. New Zealand have been handed a 87-run loss in the sixth match of the tournament.

Three of Australia, Bangladesh and New Zealand have got pointa from abandoned matches. Australia got two points from their two games. Bangladesh lost to England in their first game and then escaped a loss to Australia. New Zealand’s heavy defeat to England let their net run rate be -1.74 while Bangladesh’s is -0.41.

The remaining games of Group A are Bangladesh vs New Zealand at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on June 9 and England vs Australia high-voltage at Edgbaston.

To qualify for the Semis, Bangladesh must win against New Zealand even by one run or last ball six. They will have three points. But that won’t do for the Tigers. Hosts England need to beat Australia because if Australia win, they and England will have four points each.

Bangladesh can even qualify if their match against New Zealand gets washed out and England beat Australia by 21 runs or win within 47 overs. In that case Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia will have two points each. By virtue of better net run rate, Bangladesh will qualify.

Bangladesh fans would pray and hope that the Tigers win and Australia lose to England. If Bangladesh go through, it will be the first time the Bangladesh senior men’s team have reached Semifinals of an ICC global tournament.
