Sri Lanka batsman Kushal Perera has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy after suffering a hamstring injury in the side’s stunning seven-wicket victory over defending champions India at the Oval.
Dhananjaya de Silva, a batsman as well as an offspinner, has replaced the injured Kusal Perera in Sri Lanka’s Champions Trophy squad, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement on Saturday.
“The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 has approved Dhananjaya de Silva as a replacement player for Kusal Perera in the Sri Lanka squad for the tournament,” the ICC said.
The 25-year old cricketer thus far, has made three fifties and averages 25.69 in 16 ODIs. He is best known for his performances in his debut Test series against Australia last year, particularly for his century in the Colombo Test that sealed a historic whitewash for Sri Lanka.
However, Dhananjaya has not played competitive cricket since March and last played an ODI for Sri Lanka in February this year, during Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa.
