Dhawan century boosts India

India have posted another big total in Champions Trophy. They have hit 300s twice in the tournament. The defending champions posted 321/6 against Sri Lanka in the eighth match at The Oval, London.

Sri Lanka sent India to bat first. Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were excellent for the team once again. The opening pair added another century partnership, tenth time in ODIs and four of them in Champions Trophy.

These two shared a 138-run stand in 24.5 overs. Rohit scored his second half-century of the tournament. He was closing-in to hit a century, but missed out on a Lasith Malinga bouncer which left him out for 79-ball 78 with 6 fours and 3 sixes.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli scored his first ever duck in ICC tournaments. He was caught behind by Nuwan Pradeep on his fifth ball he faced. Yuvraj Singh departed soon scoring 7.

MS Dhoni joined Dhawan and made 82-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Dhawan brought up his 10th ODI ton in 112 balls. He hammered 125 runs from 128 deliveries including 15 fours and a six. It was his third hundred in Champions Trophy, equalling Herschelle Gibbs, Sourav Ganguly and Chris Gayle.

Dhoni showed his class in the end with his 62nd fifty. He smashed 63 off 52 hitting 7 fours and 2 sixes. Kedar Jadhav’s cameo 13-ball 25* helped India post 321/6 in 50 overs.

Malinga took two wickets but went for 70 runs. Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal, Asela Gunaratne and Thisara Perera picked one wicket each.
