India opener Shikhar Dhawan has surpassed Inddia’s all-time most successful captain Sourav Ganguly to become his country’s highest run-scorer in the history of ICC Champions Trophy.

The left-hand batsman played a solid knock of 46 runs off 34 balls in the second semifinal match against Bangladesh on Tursday in Edgbaston, Brmingham.

And thanks to this knock, Dhawan now has scored 680 runs in Champions Trophy in just 9 matches with the help of 3 centuries and as many half centuries.

Before this match, Ganguly had been India’s highest run-score in Champions Trophy. He had scored 665 runs in 11 innings of 13 matches with the help of 3 centuries and as many half centuris, just like Dhawan.

The third position among the Indians in Champions Trophy belongs to another former captain Rahul Dravid, who has 627 runs to his name in 15 innings of 19 matches with the help of half a dozen half centuries.

Chris Gayle of West Indies is the all-time highest run-scorer of Champions Trophy. In 17 innings of as many matches, he scored 791 runs with the help of 3 centuries and one half century.

 

Shikhar Dhawan, the highest run-scorer of Champions Trophy’s last edition in 2013, is once again the leading run-scorer of this ongoing season. So far he has scored 317 runs in four mathes with two half centuries and one century.
