England are ‘predictable’, says Smith

Australia’s captain Steve Smith calls England predictable ahead of their Champion Trophy fixture.

Australia are going to face table toppers England, today at Edgbaston, to secure a place in the semifinals of the Champions Trophy 2017. It’s a must-win match for Australia, if they lose or if the match is abandoned for bad weather Australia will be eliminated from the tournament and Bangladesh will go on to play in the semis. Winning the match is going to be a difficult task for the Aussies as they’re going face England, the most consistent side in this years tournament.

However Australia’s captain Steve Smith doesn’t seem to be too concerned about the opposition. In the pre-match press conference Smith raised some eyebrows when he labeled England’s tactics in limited overs cricket as ‘predictable’.

“I’d say they’re quite predictable with the way they play. They don’t like to change a lot so from our aspect that’s something we can play on. They’ve got some dangerous batters who can score big runs and quick runs as well.” said Smith.

When asked to elaborate on his statement, Smith said, “It’s just their plans, the way they structure their innings and the way their bowlers are used and what the bowlers do. The bowlers have a set of skills that we know quite well and we know what they are going to do. So you’re halfway through the battle, if that makes sense.”

Smith’s remarks might comeback to haunt him, if his side fails to qualify to the semifinals.
