'England should have won CT17' says Pietersen Started the tournament as ‘hot favorites’ to win the title, host England ended up as one of the four semi – finalist of the season. Former English hard hitter Kevin Pietersen believes England ‘should have won’ the trophy thus criticized the drop out of Jason Roy in the semifinal match against Pakistan.

“Everybody struggles, it’s a learning curve. He is a youngster, he is not going to nail his whole career. You go through ups and downs, he is a kid” – Pietersen said.

Jason Roy managed just 51 runs in eight innings in this season; he was replaced by Jonny Bairstow in the semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy.

“He shouldn’t have been dropped. Is he a bad player? No, he is a wonderful player. What he will learn to deal with is how quickly to get himself out of this bit of bad form” – Kevin Pietersen said.

“I wouldn’t have done it, but I am not the coach or the captain” – the former hard hitter implied.

Complementing his country side, Kevin Pietersen said, “England are a wonderful young team. I know that India and Pakistan won’t like it, but in strength, in depth in English conditions, England should have won it.”
