Woakes suffered a side strain during the opening game against Bangladesh on Thursday at The Oval. He could bowl two overs only and was out of the field. The next day, it was confirmed that the English all-rounder will miss the rest of the tournament.
Finn recently played the third ODI against South Africa at Lord’s where he remained wicketless for 35 runs. He has been an irregular name in English side for a while. Although he has picked five wickets in two matches against South Africa A team.
The pacer was a part of England’s side in the West Indies tour for three ODIs. He was picked in the squad for two ODIs against Ireland but didn’t find a place in the XI.
Finn has played 69 ODIs for England and captured 102 wickets in 67 innings at 5.06 runs per over with two five-wicket hauls. He will immediately join England side in Cardiff as they will take on New Zealand on Tuesday in their second match. He is expected to play in the match.
