Sri Lanka’s dependable middle order batsman Chamara Kapugedera has been ruled out of the team enduring a tear in right knee just before their vital encounter against India in the ICC Champions Trophy, 2017.
Sri Lanka board has immediately replaced Danushka Gunathilaka as the replacement of Kapugedera.
A release from Sri Lankan board says, Kapugedera is suffering a meniscal tear in his right knee while he awkwardly landed during a fielding drill. They further said that physiotherapists have suggested a two week rest.
“Kapugedera had a heavy pounding on right knee when he landed on it awkwardly during a fielding drill this morning, and radiographic investigation has revealed a meniscal tear coupled with an acute tendon injury. Tournament and SLC medical experts have recommended a supervised convalescence of two weeks, followed by a review of injury” – the board release said.
Kapugedera position in the middle order position is likely to be replaced by Angelo Matthews while Uppal Tharanga’s position will be taken by Danushka Gunathilaka.
Sri Lanka is going to combat in a must win game against India. In their first match of the Champions Trophy, the Lankan lions was thrashed by South Africa in a 96 runs defeat after Hashim Amla and Imran Tahir ripped the opponents.
