While Bangladesh former skipper Habibul Bashar was extremely happy to see the maverick all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan come back to form, do wonders with the ball and then following it up with a glorius hundred with the bat in hand, he says he is even more pleased with the ton from Mahmudullah Riyad.
“While Shakib’s hundred was brilliantly conceived, I was even more delighted to see Mahmudullah back among the runs. He is a big-tournament player, and had made two hundreds in the 2015 World Cup when we reached the quarter-final,” wrote Bashar in his column for ICC.
Having praised Mahmudulla for his remarkable performance with the bat in hand, Bashar believes there shouldn’t be any more confusion as to where should Mahmudullah bat, as he believes No.4 is the tailor-made position for Mahmudullah to come to the crease and take the strike.
“There has been some uncertainty over his position in the batting order, but I feel he must bat at No.4, because he is best suited to control the innings and the greater responsibility will make him feel more accountable,” wrote Bashar.
He also thinks Mahmudullah’s latest three-figure mark with the bat in hand may provide him some much-needed confidence to go forward in the days to come.
“This knock should go a long way towards restoring his confidence, and I look forward to greater things from him.”
