From the beginning of his career, Mahmudullah Riyad had used to bat at No.7 or No.8. However, later he started batting up the at the one-down or two-down position for a brief period of time. But now again he is being sent to bat at the late middle-order. [বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ প্রাপ্য সম্মান থেকে বঞ্চিত হচ্ছেন মাহমুদউল্লাহ]
He is also not being used much as a bowler of late. In last couple of months during the busies period of international cricket for Bangladesh cricket, one has hardly seen Mahmudullah with the ball.
Observing Mahmudullah’s recent participation and contribution to the team, former Bangladesh all-rounder Mehrab Hossain Jnr felt Mahmudullah nowadays isn’t getting the appreciation he deserves.
“I think Mahmudullah is a very underrated player. You know his calibre. Considering that, he isn’t getting the appreciation he deserves. I don’t know why the team management isn’t making the best use of him,” wondered Mehrab.
“He should bat up the order. He has the rare potential of batting under pressure. He had two back-to-back centuries on the big stage like World Cup. And now Champions Trophy is a similar kind of tournament. So he should play a bigger role in the team. He should bat at the top, and also bowl as a part-timer at times.”
