The ICC Event Technical Committee on Saturday (June 10) has approved the move.

Sri Lanka may have picked up a stunning 7-wicket victory over defending champions India at The Oval on Thursday (June 8), but they had to deal with a big blow in the same match.

While batting for the islanders, Perera suffered a hamstring injury, which now seems to be so severe that he has become the second Sri Lankan player after Chamara Kapugedera to withdraw from the tournament.

De Silva, 25, has represented Sri Lanka in 16 ODIs previously. He has scored 334 runs and taken four wickets. A top-order batsman and an offspinner, de Silva last played an ODI against South Africa at Centurion earlier this ye

Chris Woakes of England and Pakistan’s Wahab Riaz are the other two players who suffered an injury before being replaced in the original squads.

Sri Lanka will face Asian rivals Pakistan in their third and last group game of the tournament, which now has turned out to be a virtual quarter-final for both sides. The match will be held at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Monday (June 12).
