Tamim Iqbal has informed that it is important for Bangladesh to focus on their next game against New Zealand which is on June 9, rather than thinking about qualifications for Semi-finals in Champions Trophy.
Bangladesh are in a must-win situation against New Zealand in Cardiff. They also need Australia to lose against England the next day at Edgbaston. If this happens, it will be history for Bangladesh, qualifying for Semi-finals for the first time in ICC events.
But according to opener Tamim, it’s important to play the best against New Zealand. He said that the Tigers are confident against the Kiwis.
“Look, everyone can’t perform always at the same time. It’s true that as a team we can play a lot better. We were lucky to get a point in the last game and for that one point, we have an opportunity to qualify for the semi-final. If we can win the next game and at the same time if another team lose, we’ll have a chance,” Tamim told the media.
“So there is an equation but for us it’s more important for us to focus on the next game, which is against New Zealand, rather than thinking about the Semi-final at the moment. As I said, everyone can’t perform on the same day. You never know, we can win the game. And I am sure those who are playing in the Bangladesh team are all proven players.
“I am sure if we can play as a team, we have a good chance as we will be playing against a team which we have beaten both home and away. We are confident against them. However, they are a very strong team and if we want to compete against them, we have to play better cricket,” he added.
