But if the Tigers are to do well against India in the semifinal of Champions Trophy on Thursday, two proven performers of the team Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal must step up on the occasion and do something extraordinary, said former Team India director, cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri.
Asked if India will have some advantage over Bangladesh as the match will be played in batting-friendly conditions, Shastri said: “Not really. I think, Bangladesh should bat well. Their top-order has to click, and the key players have to player.
“Specially I believe two players Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan have to perform. I know there are so many good performers in Bangladesh team other than these two — Soumya, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur and many more. But the game will mainly rely on the performance of Shakib and Tamim. These two players have to take the competition to the opposition’s quarter,” Shastri said.
Shastri is not at all surprised that Bangladesh have made to the semifinals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, “I am not surprised. I think they really deserve it. They played good cricket, and this is the ultimate result of their hard work. I have been watching Bangladesh cricket closely for some time. I think no teams take Bangladesh lighly anymore.”
