Team management sticks to no.6 for Mahmudullah

Bangladesh national team batting coach Thilan Samaraweera has informed that the team management would like to stick to number six position in batting line-up for Mahmudullah Riyad. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ বদলাচ্ছে না রিয়াদের ব্যাটিং অর্ডার!]

Bangladesh have been trying hard to find a permanent batsman at number three. At the moment, they are using Sabbir Rahman in this position. But he could not make any big score. Imrul Kayes was tried in this position twice in the Champions Trophy, but failed.

A debate is going on to make Mahmudullah bat at this important position. He has scored only 157 runs with a fifty in seven innings batting at three. He averages 50.21 batting at four as he scored 703 runs in 18 innings with two centuries and six fifties.

But the Bangladesh team management wants the 31-year old to bat at number six where he has made 603 runs in 24 innings including a century and two half-centuries at 33.50. He scored 102* runs off 107 balls against New Zealand in Cardiff when he came into the crease at 33/4. So, the coaching staff is impressed with his performance.

“We have given him (Mahmudullah) a role around six months ago, which is to bat at No 6. He has responded well batting there. He was actually batting up when I took the job in 2015 but after that, the coaching staff thought about getting him ready for 2019 with the role at No 6. He is doing well there, finishing the game for the team recently, in Ireland and against New Zealand (on Friday),” said Samaraweera.
