In the semifinal, India will take on Bangladesh on June 15 in Birmingham. As they are now just two games away from retaining the title once again, India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was asked if they were considering both games at once.
However, Ashwin came up with a serious response, claiming that there was no reason to take Bangladesh lightly, and hence they were concentrating on the match against Bangladesh only.
“I think we should focus on one game at a time. You know how well can Bangladesh really play, specially on their day. And they have been some great form lately.
“At the start of the tournament when they were playing the best of their game, I thought they were really a tough contender, and my friends in the dressing room made fun of me. But now they are really in the semis. And they are gonna take them on, and we better take them seriously,” said the spinner from Tamil Nadu.
Ashwin was also very happy about the fact that once again an ICC even is being dominated by the Asian teams, even though it’s taking place not in the sub-continent but on the English soil.
“And it is really great, you know. Three Asian team playing in the semifinal of Champions Trophy, a major ICC event. This is really a good thing for Asian cricket,” he concluded.
