On the eve of a fairy tale comeback to claim a staggering win against New Zealand, world number one all – rounder Shakib Al Hasan has implied the progressiveness of Bangladesh in one day international cricket and said the country will look to carry on with their good results.
A jubilant Shakib Al Hasan said Bangladesh has come a long way forward in past two years; “Winning a match in an ICC tournament is a big thing and we have come a long way in the last two years. From here on we can only go forward” – he said in the post-match presentation at Cardiff.
On his record breaking partnership with Mahmudullah Riyad, Shakib said, “As Mahmudullah said, we didn’t talk much. We just said, ‘keep going’. We did not think of the target and just wanted to bat 40 overs and see where we were. The good thing was that we handled the swinging ball well and when there were balls to hit, we hit them.”
Whatever simple it hard the prolific all – rounder said, the chase was one of the hardest one a team can procure when they lost 4 wickets while there was a handful of 33 runs on the baord.
The 224 runs fifth wicket partnership between the duo has become the highest in any wicket for Bangladesh till to date.
