Woakes opened the bowling for the English side against the Tigers. He started off really well and conceded just 4 runs in his first 2 overs. But later he suffered a strain and was forced off the field after bowling just 2 overs.
He had scans later, which revealed the injury was serious enough to end his tournament. The news will come as a big blow to England who were relying on Woakes to carry the burden of their bowling on his shoulders. His replacement is yet to be named.
Woakes had gone into the Bangladesh match nursing a tight quad that led to his exclusion from the final two matches of England’s recent ODI series against South Africa, but he seemed back to his best when he opened the tournament with a maiden to Tamim Iqbal.
The details of Chris Woakes’ injury are not known yet, but injuries like these usually take four to six weeks to recover.
Since his debut in 2011, he has featured in 63 ODIs for England and has picked up 89 wickets at an average of 31.60 with two five-wicket hauls to his name. He had a successful season in the IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders and was eager to carry on his good form into the Champions Trophy.Steven Finn is the likeliest replacement for Woakes.
